Tibbett & Britten, a leading international logistics service provider, has extended its outsourcing contract with Digica for four years.
Under the contract, Digica provides a secure environment for Tibbett & Britten's business critical systems, including high availability provision between multiple sites at its Nottingham data centre.
“We have outsourced our core IT infrastructure to Digica since January 2000, and we are very happy with the levels of service we have received,” said Xavier Walker, European Technical Director at Tibbett & Britten.
Digica provides Tibbett & Britten with High Availability hosting of ten IBM pSeries UNIX servers with storage provision via two IBM Enterprise Storage Servers managed over a Storage Area Network (SAN). This hardware is split equally between Digica's data centre and high availability suite with each server acting as a back-up node to a corresponding server at the other location. With data also shared between the two Enterprise Storage Servers, this solution provides Tibbett & Britten a fully resilient environment. Digica also provides hosting and 24x7 technical support of three AS/400 (iSeries) machines, and hosting of over 40 Intel servers running Novell and Windows.
“We originally chose Digica because of their robust HA [High Availability] solution and competitive price,” continued Walker. “We recently embarked on a benchmarking exercise with Digica, and were delighted with the excellent value solution they were able to propose for the new contract.”
As the company's IT infrastructure is outsourced, the everyday operation of hardware is no longer a concern for Tibbett & Britten. This means that its in-house IT department can concentrate on enhancements and the strategic planning of IT against business needs.
